Prompt: Quidditch PitchThe Quidditch Pitch is silent, and James Potter has never seen the place so serene in all of his seven years at Hogwarts. The sky is pitch black, except for one spot very, very far off to the South, where he can faintly see a green glow in the sky. Though it is too far away to make out, James is well aware that it is a dark mark. They are now common, and litter the sky constantly. It is mildly unnerving to know somebody has been murdered near enough to the school to actually see the glow, but he knows Hogwarts is impenetrable. Last year one appeared over Hogsmeade, and that was a disturbing day for everybody. It resulted in Hogsmeades visits being suspended indefinitely - though the Marauders still regularly sneak out on their own, much to the pleasure of the entire Gryffindor house when they bring back treats and butterbeer from Honeydukes.

I'm really glad I found this contest. This is a scene I have wanted to draw for a REALLY long time now (but have always kind of dreaded doing). James and Sirius are my two favorite characters, ever. I whole heartedly think their relationship trumps any other in the books. Yes, including James and Lily's. No, it doesn't have to be slash or yaoi or whatever the hell it is called these days. James was Sirius's entire world. This is the day Sirius died, too. I look at this picture and realize... this is the moment. The world stopped turning right here, and there is no going back. I can't imagine what it would have been like for Sirius to find James dead -the desperation as he realizes there is nothing he can even do about it, even though he would give anything... There will never be another chance. Sirius had no girl, and he had no family. He just had James, and now he is gone, his life snuffed out like a candle. Such an easy kill, as if he never even mattered, just tossed aside for being in the way. But what a precious life this was to Sirius.

Do you remember in the 5th book when Mrs. Weasley saw the boggart and it was her family dead, and then last of all, Harry? And then it mentioned Sirius staring at the spot where Harry had lain? I bet this was in his head, finding James, as Harry looked so much like his dad.

You MUST listen to this amazing song: [link] I actually based this pose off a James and Sirius tribute video I saw years ago, to this very song (the clip itself from the film "State of Grace"). The title of this contest being the same as the title of that song, I just HAD to do this picture. I think I am mostly happy with it. It could have been done neater, but I'm just glad I didn't butcher such a sensitive moment. I think James looks good (what little of his face you can see) considering the angle. Something seems a little off with Sirius, I dunno.

_{Um, btw, that is supposed to be some carpet, perhaps shag... not grass... I prolly should have made more clutter and less open space in this destroyed house, so it might actually resemble a house, but clutter sucks to draw! There is always room for edits in the future, though.}

ETA: I did darken this up to make it appear more like it is night, as it should be. If you are having a hard time seeing it (all our monitors are different) then please speak up, and I will upload the more saturated, lighter version to my scraps for you.

I'm finishing up on a Lily-Scorpius fanfic and couldn't decide what to write next...Goodness your pictures are so emotional and irking! I've seen Sirius and Remus before but never this shipping. I must say, I'm convicted now. This pair will be my next pair and I have you to thank. Brilliant work, love the colors and lines and anguish on Sirius' face and ugh! So perfect. Thank you.
